Ternary Cathode Material Imports Rise, Exports Fall in May 2024: China Market Analysis

The import and export volumes of ternary cathode materials in May 2024 showed divergent trends, with exports decreasing by 5% from the previous month and imports increasing by 15%.

In May 2024, the total import volume of ternary materials (NCM+NCA) in China was 8,622 tons, an increase of 15% from the previous month but a decrease of 10% year-on-year. Among them, the import volume of NCM was 7,124 tons, an increase of 15% from the previous month but a decrease of 9% year-on-year; the import volume of NCA was 1,498 tons, an increase of 15% from the previous month but a decrease of 14% year-on-year.

In the same month, the total export volume of ternary materials (NCM+NCA) was 6,882 tons, a decrease of 5% from the previous month and a decrease of 20% year-on-year. Among them, the cumulative export volume of NCM was 6,922 tons, which was flat from the previous month but decreased by 19% year-on-year; the export volume of NCA was 189 tons, a decrease of 37% from the previous month and a decrease of 56% year-on-year.
