SHANGHAI, Apr 11 (SMM) - Losses of high-grade NPI expanded further based on the prices of nickel ore purchased 25 days ago. Last week, the high-grade NPI prices dipped 69 yuan/mtu, while prices of nickel ore purchased 25 days ago dropped more slowly on the mismatch between supply and demand. As a result, the NPI plants bore high costs while having to sell at lows. CIF prices of spot nickel ore declined greatly, improving the profit margins of NPI plants. Recently, the NPI prices have dropped quickly, and the plants that held high stocks of high-priced ore restocked earlier were more cautious about purchasing nickel ore, which forced the mines to cut nickel ore quotes. If ore prices continue to decline in the near future, the profits of NPI plants will grow further.
