Silver prices surged on Monday as retail Reddit investors targeted silver, but Commerzbank warned that commodity Bubble would spread and smaller metals in some markets could be targeted next, including metals such as platinum and palladium.
Eugen Weinberg, head of commodities research at Commerzbank, said in an interview on Monday that retail fanaticism would continue and that the large amount of liquidity provided by the US and European central banks would continue to drive up some asset prices. "with excess liquidity in the system, it is possible not only to make Bubble in silver, but also to form Bubble of commodities and other asset classes in the future."
As to which commodities might be the next target, Weinberg explained that retail investors are unlikely to have such a big impact in larger markets such as gold, "but platinum, palladium and other smaller precious metals may be worth watching, which are easier to hold and easier to buy through ETF."
Weinberg believes that there is a certain probability that the frenzy will spread to commodities in a larger market, and even oil may be affected. "I don't even rule out the possibility that retail investors will talk about oil in the future, although the impact of this retail frenzy on silver and other smaller markets may be more pronounced."
It is worth noting that although the rally is not as crazy as the game station, silver rose more than 10% at one point on Monday, breaking the $30 mark for the first time since February 2013, and silver stocks generally rose. Silver futures fell slightly as of press time, but were still up more than 7%, just under $30.
