SMM, December 27: The quoted price for sulphuric acid process rutile titanium dioxide today was 14,000-14,900 yuan/mt, unchanged from yesterday.

According to titanium dioxide enterprises, the prices of raw materials such as titanium concentrate and sulphuric acid remained at high levels, leading to significant production pressure for titanium dioxide enterprises, with many operating near the cost line. Affected by cost pressure, the operating rate of titanium dioxide enterprises has gradually declined. Titanium dioxide manufacturers have continuously reduced the production of sponge titanium supply, and some titanium dioxide enterprises are experiencing tight spot supply. They have issued notices to increase domestic titanium dioxide prices by 500 yuan/mt and overseas prices by $60/mt. However, the overall titanium dioxide market is still in a contradictory situation of high upstream inventory and relatively weak downstream demand. Downstream buyers show low willingness to accept high prices, and transaction follow-ups are limited. It is expected that the short-term upward resistance for titanium dioxide prices will remain strong.

[SMM Analysis] Titanium Dioxide Prices Rise Amid Cost Pressures and Geopolitical Tensions
As of March 24, titanium dioxide prices continued to rise, with the SMM index up 4.6% since early 2026. Two rounds of price hikes were issued in March amid low inventories. Strong exports and production cuts supported gains, though sustainability post-peak season remains uncertain, hinging on downstream acceptance.
