US to Expedite Approval of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

The United States will accelerate the deployment of electric vehicle charging stations. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will announce a plan on Wednesday to expedite the approval of electric vehicle charging stations, marking the Biden administration's second use of the same strategy to speed up the deployment of charging stations. According to the plan, the EPA will utilize a document developed by the Department of Energy, known as a 'categorical exclusion', to more quickly approve the installation, retrofitting, operation, or removal of electric vehicle charging stations funded by the EPA in already developed areas. A categorical exclusion refers to a decision made by other agencies that a project is not likely to have significant environmental impacts. Under the National Environmental Policy Act, if a proposed project meets the criteria for exclusion, it can be exempted from more extensive and longer-lasting review.
