Prices Of Photovoltaic Glass Fell In June

In June, the price of photovoltaic glass at some enterprises was adjusted downward. The price of 2.0mm coated glass fell to 17.8-19.0 yuan/m2, and the price of 3.2mm coated glass stood at 25.5-26.5 yuan/m2. The prices of 2.0mm and 3.2mm photovoltaic glass at leading enterprises were 18.0 yuan/m2 and 25.5 yuan/m2 respectively. During the month, some glass enterprises lowered their prices by 0.5-1.0 yuan/m2.

This price reduction is mostly due to the recent weakening demand from module manufacturers. SMM understood that since the first ten days of this month, the purchasing of various auxiliary materials by module manufacturers weakened. Affected by the weakening transactions, glass inventory has continued to climb. According to a glass plant in Jiangsu, its own orders dropped by nearly 30% compared with May, and the inventory pressure was significant. The inventories of the rest of the enterprises climbed to different degrees. With growing inventory and weakening demand, some photovoltaic glass enterprises lowered their quotations last week, and the price reduction was mostly 0.5 yuan/m2. At present, the price of 2.0mm coated glass has dropped to around 17 yuan/m2, the lowest price in recent months.

However, only less than 50% of companies lowered their quotations in the middle of the month. According to SMM survey, most of the glass companies that lowered their quotations were those who had reported reduced orders since mid-May and kept prices firm in early June. The inventory of those enterprises has been on the rise since the end of May, continued to increase until the middle of June. The pressure of slow shipments and inventory prompted those glass enterprises to lower their quotations to reduce the inventory to a healthy level. Other companies had reduced inventories to about 14 days of production in mid-May by lowering prices. Despite weakening trades, their inventories did not increase sharply. Therefore, they did not cut prices recently.

Regarding the price in June, SMM believes that the price will be stable for a period of time after the price adjustment. Glass companies are generally optimistic towards the demand for modules in July, believing that the prices are unlikely to fall further in the near term.
