Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva plans to push for BYD to buy a Ford plant in north-east Brazil during his visit to China this week, sources familiar with the matter said.
The factory is located in Bahia, Brazil, with an annual production capacity of about 300,000 units. It has stopped production in 2021 and is still owned by Ford Motor. The deal is contingent on a final agreement with Ford, the people said. A Brazilian diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Lula was eager to make a major statement about the factory during the visit.
