Li Liangbin of Ganfeng Lithium Industry: retired batteries are equivalent to urban mines. Li Liangbin believes that in the process of achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutralization, replacing fossil fuels with clean energy is a very key link. Therefore, more energy storage devices are needed to store solar and wind energy, and more power batteries are needed to replace traditional internal combustion engines.

On August 26th, the first ESG Global leaders Summit was solemnly held with the theme of "focusing on ESG development and discussing a new low-carbon sustainable future". Li Liangbin, chairman of Ganfeng Lithium Industry, attended and delivered a speech entitled "the significance of Scientific and technological Innovation to Enterprise Development".

Li Liangbin pointed out that Ganfeng Lithium Industry is doing such a thing-mining and purchasing lithium resources from around the world, and processing them into materials such as lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide and metal lithium, which are used to make various types of power and energy storage batteries. Li Liangbin mentioned that electric cars with Ganfeng products have traveled more than 50 billion kilometers in the past five years, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 12.5 million tons compared with traditional fuel-fired cars.

Li Liangbin then shared some specific ESG initiatives of Ganfeng in the fields of mining, production and recovery.

In the process of resource exploitation, Li Liangbin said: generally speaking, when we talk about resource exploitation, people will think of negative words such as pollution, damage to the ecological environment, and so on, but in fact, a project that fully meets sustainable standards will not cause pollution problems.

In the production process, Li Liangbin said that they will set clear ESG targets, through technological innovation, energy iteration and other ways to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction.

With regard to the recycling of resources, Li Liangbin mentioned that the problem was discovered a long time ago, so he founded Ganfeng cycle in 2016, focusing on the recycling of waste batteries and materials. "after years of technological research and innovation, we have not only achieved the recovery of lithium, but also the recovery rate has exceeded 90%." Li Liangbin said.

Li Liangbin concluded that decommissioned batteries are equivalent to urban mines, and when the new energy market is large enough, most of our needs can be met by recycling lithium resources. This not only solves the problem of battery treatment, no longer burying or polluting the environment, but also excavates a more sustainable way to obtain resources.

The following is the transcript of the meeting:

Dear friends, distinguished guests, Hello, everyone!

Climate change is one of the most important global issues in this century; our country also set the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality last year. In the process of achieving this goal, replacing fossil fuels with clean energy is a key link. So we need more energy storage equipment to store solar and wind energy, and we need more power batteries to replace traditional internal combustion engines.

We are honored that this is what our Ganfeng lithium industry is doing-we extract and purchase lithium resources from all over the world, and process them into lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, metal lithium and other materials, which are used to make various types of power and energy storage batteries. To talk about another figure, in the past five years, electric cars with Ganfeng products have traveled more than 50 billion kilometers, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 12.5 million tons compared with traditional fuel-fired cars.

As an indispensable element in the cause of energy clean and low-carbon transformation, the production process of lithium should be more sustainable. We should not ignore the green in the process just because the result is green. Here, I would like to share some specific ESG measures of Ganfeng in the fields of mining, production, recycling and so on.

Let's talk about Ganfeng's green mining first.

Generally speaking, when we talk about resource exploitation, we will think of negative words such as pollution, destruction of the ecological environment and so on. But in fact, a project that fully meets sustainable standards will not cause pollution problems. For example, we are working on a salt lake or brine project in Argentina: we use sunlight to dry the brine, evaporating the brine to a certain concentration and relying entirely on natural solar energy; the electricity used in the rest of the process comes from surrounding or self-built photovoltaic power stations; production water is selected from water sources that do not meet biological drinking standards and recycled.

There is no fossil fuel consumption, no water pollution and waste, and the whole mining process makes maximum use of renewable resources.

After mining, there is production and manufacturing.

In the production process, we will set clear ESG goals, through technological innovation, energy iteration and other ways to achieve energy saving and emission reduction. In 2020, we introduced advanced management tools for Ganfeng to comprehensively sort out the carbon footprint and water footprint of the company's main products; at the same time, through technological renovation, by-products and waste heat capture and recycling of water, to reduce emissions and resource consumption in the production process year by year; we are also carrying out the laying of photovoltaic power generation equipment, hoping to further increase the proportion of renewable energy.

Finally, I would like to talk about the recovery and recycling of resources.

Lithium and even the whole new energy industry is a green industry, which is an important layout for the world to move towards a low-carbon economy, but in the process of popularization, the disposal of waste and decommissioned batteries is becoming a difficult problem in the industry.

We discovered this problem a long time ago, so we launched Ganfeng cycle in 2016, focusing on the recycling of waste batteries and materials. A long time ago, including some overseas recycling companies, battery recycling mainly depended on fire, which was calcined into metal blocks and then extracted. But the problem with this scheme is that the lithium in the battery will be lost in the calcination process, which is equivalent to a waste. After years of technological innovation, we have not only achieved the recovery of lithium, but also the recovery rate has exceeded 90%.

I have always believed that decommissioned batteries are equivalent to urban mines, and when the new energy market is large enough, we can meet most of our needs by recycling the lithium resources we have extracted. This not only solves the problem of battery treatment, no longer burying or polluting the environment, but also excavates a more sustainable way to obtain resources.

Today, we have also reached cooperation with many universities and institutions to explore the possibility of using technological innovation to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction.

As a lithium ecological enterprise upstream of new energy, in the future, Ganfeng will continue to optimize technology, provide stable, high-quality and clean battery and battery raw material products downstream, and work with the majority of partners to contribute to the global energy transformation. make a modest contribution to the cause of carbon neutralization!
