According to the SMM survey, as of August 16, the total social inventory of tin ingots in the three regions surveyed by SMM was 12,292 mt, an increase of 592 mt WoW.
Through in-depth and detailed market research by SMM, we found that tin prices showed a significant upward trend last week after moving rangebound. Specifically, at the beginning of the week, SHFE tin prices remained rangebound between 254,000-259,000 yuan/mt. This trend continued until the Thursday night trading session, when SHFE tin prices suddenly surged, reaching nearly 264,000 yuan/mt, and remained stable during Friday's daytime trading. From the perspective of the spot market, the high rangebound prices of SHFE tin at the beginning of the week somewhat suppressed the enthusiasm of downstream purchasing companies. Additionally, many end-users had already seized the opportunity to make purchases when tin prices were low, and their inventories have now been replenished accordingly. Therefore, overall, the purchasing demand from downstream and end-user companies has weakened. The spot market trading atmosphere was relatively cold last week, with most trading companies only maintaining sporadic transactions, in stark contrast to the active trading seen in previous weeks. It is expected that if SHFE tin prices remain high this week, the spot market may continue this relatively quiet trading state.
