Tianqi Lithium Appeals to Halt SQM-Codelco Deal, Citing Lack of Transparency

[Tianqi Lithium Appeals the Ruling on SQM's Deal with Codelco] According to foreign media reports on July 27, Tianqi Lithium stated in a press release on Saturday that the company has filed an appeal with the Santiago Court of Appeals. This move stems from the Chilean securities regulator's rejection of Tianqi Lithium's request to submit the deal between SQM and Codelco, Chile's national copper company, to a shareholder vote. Tianqi Lithium is seeking to suspend the CMF ruling until a final solution is reached, which could potentially halt the progress of the deal. In the statement, Tianqi Lithium pointed out that the transaction between SQM and Codelco lacks transparency and insufficiently respects the rights of minority shareholders. The company aims to uphold its rights as a 22% shareholder of SQM and as an international investor. Earlier reports indicated that SQM and Codelco have signed a partnership agreement to establish a joint venture for the joint development of lithium mining resources.
