Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. ("Chery Automobile") officially joined the UN Global Compact on March 31, 2024, following a review by the United Nations Global Compact organization, the company announced on April 15 via its WeChat account.

Chery Automobile has pledged to support the ten principles of the UN Global Compact regarding human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and will report relevant progress annually.

The UN Global Compact, initiated by the UN Secretary-General in 2000, is the world's largest and most influential international organization promoting corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. It was also the earliest proponent of the ESG concept (Environmental, Social, Governance), advocating for companies to focus on long-term sustainable development beyond profit alone. As of today, the UN Global Compact has over 24,000 participating companies and stakeholders from more than 160 countries.

Chery, with over 13.6 million global users, has been China's leading brand for passenger car exports for 21 consecutive years. Throughout its over 20 years of globalization, it has integrated sustainability into its strategy and operations, practicing corporate citizenship and contributing to the economies, employment, taxation, and public welfare in every market it operates in.

In 2023, Chery donated over 32 million yuan to disaster relief and reconstruction in disaster-stricken areas such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Gansu-Qinghai. It also contributed $6 million to UNICEF for international children's education projects and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature to promote global environmental protection projects.

Joining the UN Global Compact is one of Chery Automobile's important measures in implementing its long-termism and sustainable development strategy. Chery hopes to work with a wide range of stakeholders to collectively advance the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and collaborate with global enterprises to build a more sustainable world.
