Recently, Pohang Iron and Steel Company, together with external enterprises, has successfully developed steel pipes for hydrogen transportation, which will be used in Anshan, the first batch of hydrogen demonstration cities in South Korea. Hydrogen demonstration cities are environmentally friendly cities that use hydrogen energy such as residential facilities and means of transportation. the Ministry of Land and Transport of South Korea designated Dingan City, Ulsan wide City, Jeonju and Wanzhou as hydrogen demonstration cities in 2019.
Up to now, Korean hydrogen transmission pipelines mainly use imported seamless steel tubes less than 6 inches, but due to the large hydrogen transport capacity in South Korea's hydrogen demonstration cities, the South Korean Ministry of Land and Transportation has adjusted the design to a large diameter pipeline with a diameter of 8 inches. Generally speaking, welded steel pipe is used for large diameter steel pipe more than 8 inches, but its application is limited because of the safety of the weld zone.
In this regard, Posco has developed new steel products, which significantly improve the service life and safety of welds, can cope with cracking and corrosion caused by hydrogen, and commissioned Husteel to manufacture steel pipes. When this kind of steel pipe is at-45 ℃, the weld also has high safety and can resist external shock.
