SHANGHAI, Mar. 18 (SMM) – China’s galvanizing demand is expected to grow further in 2016, despite a slower pace, SMM says.
“Shandong’s galvanizing demand is optimistic this year,” one galvanized structural parts producer in Shandong told SMM at the 2016 (11th) Shanghai Lead & Zinc Summit jointly held by SMM and Shanghai Nonferrous Metals Industry Association during March 16-17. “Galvanizing demand in Qingdao and nearby regions is now strong.”
Monthly zinc capacity in Qingdao was 300 tonnes at 30 producers in 2015, with operating rates steady. Qingdao Yili Steel Structure Engineer Co., with capacity of 30,000-tpy, mainly engages in galvanized structural parts business and supplies to power companies worldwide.
Shandong’s Weifang, Yantai and Rizhao will invest 4.19 billion, 1.87 billion and 1.05 billion yuan, respectively in 2016 in power grid transformation. This should boost demand for base station steel tower.
However, power consumption during January-February in China was 876.2 billion kwh, up 2.0% YoY, with the growth down 0.5 percentage point compared with the same period of 2015, according to the National Energy Administration. CEC sees weak power demand in 2016. So growth in galvanizing demand is expected to slow.
