North American crude steel output plunged 10% in March 2015

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries edged lower by 9.8% during the month of February year-on-year. The production totaled 9.341 Mt in March this year as against 10.353 Mt recorded in Mar ’14.

The total crude steel production by Canada during March this year was 1.065 Mt, higher than the March 2014 production of 1.033 Mt by 3.1%. The US produced 6.551 Million tonnes of crude steel, significantly lower by 12.7% when compared to 7.505 Million tonnes production achieved during March 2014. The total crude steel production by Mexico dropped 5.2% from 1.714 Mt in Mar ‘14 to 1.625 Mt in March this year.

The Cuban crude steel production soared 24.3% to 25,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in March this year, up nearly 15% when compared with 9,000 tonnes a year before. Guatemala produced 30,000 tonnes in March, up 6.2% from a year ago. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago plunged by 20% in March this year to 35,000 tonnes from 44,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.
