SHANGHAI, Oct. 13 (SMM) -- The demand for selenium dioxide was weak in domestic market negatively affected by increasing production cuts and suspension at downstream refined manganese firms, and prices of selenium dioxide continued to fall as a result. At present, mainstream traded prices dropped to the range of RMB 340-345/kg.
SMM believes as downstream stainless steel market sentiment was sluggish, refined manganese prices will likely fall further in the near future as a result of weak demand, and more and most refined manganese firms will stop production as well. In this context, the demand for selenium dioxide will continue to drop. In addition, the import volume of selenium powder fell due to weak demand, and selenium dioxide supply in domestic market will decline as a result, which will help support selenium dioxide prices to a certain extent.
In summary, SMM believes selenium dioxide prices will receive support at RMB 300/kg.
