SHANGHAI, Sept. 28 (SMM) -- Trading sentiment was lukewarm in domestic silicon metal market, but most market players were optimistic with regard to silicon metal prices after China’s National Day holiday.

A factory with monthly output of 600mt in Guizhou province said recent orders they received declined, and the existing orders (export to Japan) could be completed until late October. Although the electricity price has been more than RMB 0.4/kWh, a subsidy of RMB 600/mt from the government helped ease cost pressure to some extent.

Factories faced different conditions in Yunnan province. Factories located in water-deficient area have decided to stop production and will restart production until next April and May, while factories in other areas said they have signed orders for November, so they raised offers upon optimistic price outlook.

SMM believes special attention should be paid to changes in operating rates at silicon factories.
