Investigations of Heavy Metal Pollution Begin in Hebei Province

SHANGHAI, Sept. 28 -- Hebei Provincial Environmental Protection Office decided the carry out comprehensive heavy metal pollution investigation at enterprises from now to October 25th, and will shut down the enterprises that cause serious pollution or result in major environmental events. 

    The investigations will cover producers that produce lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium and arsenic, as well as producers that use lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium and arsenic in the process of production.

    The investigations will focus on the pollution control and environmental safety risks in key areas, key industries involved heavy metals, and key enterprises. The enterprises who fail to comply with industrial policies will be resolutely banned, together with relevant departments; the enterprises who cause heavy pollution and serious environmental events will be shut down; the enterprises who fail to meet environmental requirements stably will be closed for maintenance with ordered deadline. The provincial government will implement industrial policy strictly, and heavy metals-related enterprises without the environmental impact assessment are not allowed to start the construction, and the enterprises who have completed the construction are not allowed to come online.
