LONDON, Sept. 17 -- The global refined zinc market was in a 290,000 metric ton surplus from January to July of this year, the International Lead and Zinc Study Group said Wednesday.
That compares with a 112,000 ton surplus in the same period last year.
Production in the 2009 period totaled 6.311 million tons and consumption totaled 6.021 million tons.
The western world was in a 316,000 ton surplus, compared with a 150,000 ton deficit in 2008 for the period.
