SHANGHAI, Sept. 16 (SMM) -- Yesterday, LME three-month contract nickel prices opened at USD 16,550/mt. As the market has absorbed the demand concerns caused by China’s output, import and export on Monday, the US dollar index dropped further, so base metal prices received support on Tuesday. LME nickel prices recovered, and moved up further with support from better-than-expected economic data, with lowest level of USD 16,438/mt and highest level of USD 17,128/mt, and closed at USD 17,080/mt finally.
The declines in US dollar index slowed, and actual stainless steel demand still reported no significant improvement, which will drag down LME nickel prices further in the short term. LME nickel prices are expected to fluctuate in the USD 16,450-17,200/mt range today.
