SHANGHAI, Sept. 15 (SMM) -- Silicon metal export market remained lukewarm, and inquiries from overseas buyers were limited, with relatively low prices. Domestic traders said transactions were very weak when export prices (FOB) for #553 silicon metal were USD 1,700/mt, and deals were mainly made around USD 1,680/mt.
Most smelters arranged production based on existing orders, and were uncertain about market trend before National Day. However, they will be firm with offers given limited inventories. Port prices were RMB 9,500-9,600/mt for #553 silicon and RMB 9,900/mt for #441 silicon.
SMM believes silicon metal market will remain lukewarm before National Day, with no significant change in actual traded prices. Export market will report no improvement in the short term as well.
