Aluminum Jumps 15% in July, Heads for Best Month Since May 1988

SINGAPORE, July 31 -- Aluminum, little changed in Asia, is poised for the best monthly performance since May 1988 on optimism a global recovery will boost demand.

    Three-month delivery aluminum on the London Metal Exchange traded at $1,877.50 a metric ton at 8:15 a.m. in Singapore, up 15 percent this month. The metal used in automobiles and airplanes rose to $1,890 a ton yesterday, the highest since Nov. 19.
