URUMQI, July 8 -- Xinjiang Joinworld Co., an aluminum products manufacturer in Urumqi, was operating normally as ethnic violence in the Chinese city was brought under control, a company executive said.
Transportation of raw material and finished products was also normal, Qian Hao, manager of the investment & development department at Joinworld, said by phone from Urumqi today, without elaborating. Joinworld produces 30,000 metric tons of high-grade aluminum products a year.
Chinese officials imposed an overnight curfew in Urumqi for a second straight day, after ethnic Han and Uighur people fought in the streets with machetes, pipes and bricks. The strife has left at least 156 people dead and more than 800 injured since July 5.
