[Zn] Domestic Imports of Zinc Concentrate in April Hit a New High
SHANGHAI, May 22 (CBI China) -- According to statistics from China Customs, domestic imports of zinc concentrate were 350kt in April, up 82.4% compared to March, and cumulative imports were 1.04 million mt from January to April, up 43.3% YoY.
Zinc concentrate imports hit a record high since September 2007. Although domestic output of zinc concentrate grew gradually, the output was still far below the demand from smelters in view of the large-scale production of zinc smelters during April and May, as well as the self prediction of production at smelters. Large volumes of zinc concentrate imports for raw material stock replenishment also indicate the market belief of purchasing low-priced overseas resources.
