SHANGHAI, May 19 (CBI China) -- Domestic low-grade silicon metal prices experienced declines again. Port price of 553# silicon was about RMB 9,200/mt. The traders were uneager to purchase due to their forecast of price declines, and some market insiders predicted the price will fall to RMB 9,000/mt in the short term. The price of high-grade silicon remained stable, with port price of 2202# silicon at RMB 10,300/mt. While the prices of 421 chemical grade were in the wide range of RMB 9,700-10,800/mt.

According to CBI sources, factories in southwest region were replenishing raw materials and planed to resume production in late May and early June.

Downstream consumers believe the supply will increase gradually, and silicon metal prices will still have downward room due to declines in cost during high-water period. Some traders said port price of 553# silicon will likely fall to RMB 9,000/mt in June. A portion of factories will face great pressure on production if the transactions remained weak.
