SHANGHAI, May 7 (CBI China) -- The insiders of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of Yunnan province said the Provincial Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Provincial Ministry of Finance jointly issued the “notice on adding germanium and silicon to the non-ferrous metal reserve program”, and decided to start the second batch of non-ferrous metal reserves. At the same time, they planed to add zone-refined germanium and industry silicon to the reserve program based on the existing five varieties, copper, aluminum, lead, zinc and tin.

“The producers said the prices of zone-refined germanium and industry silicon have fallen substantially recently due to financial crisis. Thus, two new varieties will be added to the reserve plans, with zone-refined germanium reserves of 8mt and industry silicon of 10kt.” The funds required by non-ferrous metal reserves will be solved by the producers with reserve commitments through bank loans. The interests and storage charges occurred during the period of reserve program will be subsidized by the value-added activities and the provincial capital budgets.
