Chinese Steel Plants Get More New Orders in Mar.

BEIJING, Apr. 10 -- Many large and midsize steel plants in China have received new project orders from the government and domestic and overseas large companies in March, according to statistics from Lange Steel Information Study Center.

These steel plants include Baosteel, Wuhan Steel, Benxi Steel, Shougang, Laigang, Taigang, and Ansteel.

The orders came from the country's infrastructure construction projects, State Grid project, west-to-east gas transmission project, Beijing-to-Shanghai high speed railway, and those from such companies as CNPC, China Shipbuilding Corporation and Shanghai Elect.

"Although steel plants are getting new orders, market demand maintains soft, which curbs resumption of the steel industry," said analysts with Lange Steel.

Steel prices in China have been dropping for eight months consecutively.
