SHANGHAI, Apr. 2 (CBI China) -- Domestic silicon metal market remained depressed, and the export market was still weary. The effect of new export rebate policy will remain to be seen.
Currently, the price of 553# silicon was in the RMB 9,200-9,500/mt range, while the price of 2202# silicon was about RMB 10,500/mt.
As to direct-supply electricity policy, a factory in Sichuan said it has not received any specific notice yet. The enterprises will have huge cost advantage under the direct-supply electricity policy.
Most of factories in Yunnan province have cut or suspended productions and they said they may defer the operating time. Although the cost will decline during high-water period, the sales will be poor due to weary demand.
CBI believes the price will move slightly in the short term in view of slim transactions and cost supports. The silicon metal market is expected to recover only after the recovery of downstream demand.
