SHANGHAI, Aug. 25 -- Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd (2899.HK: Quote)(601899.SS: Quote) is unlikely to receive approval to resume production at one of its copper mines this year, the official Xinhua News Agency said on Wednesday.

The government ordered the company to suspend production last month after a poisonous spill from a copper mine contaminated a local river, threatening the health of thousands of people living along its banks.

The treatment of acidic waste water had basically been completed, and the government would grant the company a production license after a thorough inspection when the company's water treatment tank was rebuilt, Xinhua quoted a local government official as saying.

Zijin vice-president and former head of the Zijinshan gold and copper mine, Chen Jiahong, and three other senior executives were detained last month after the spill.
