Russia RUSAL Calls EGM to Elect New Norilsk Board

MOSCOW, Aug. 9 -- Russian aluminium giant UC RUSAL (0486.HK: Quote) said on Friday it has requested an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of Norilsk Nickel (GMKN.MM: Quote) shareholders to hold new elections for the miner's board of directors.

RUSAL, which holds a 25 percent stake in Norilsk Nickel, said it believes the current board of directors, "is controlled by unhealthy alliance of Interros and Norilsk Nickel management."

The current board was elected on the June 28 at an annual general meeting.
