BEIJING, Aug. 4 -- China saw the sales of passenger car grow 25% year on year to 6.29 million units from January to July this year, thanks to the government subsidies for fuel-efficient vehicles and bigger discounts from dealers, sources reported, citing report made by China Automotive Technology & Research Center.

In July, sales of cars, sport-utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles in China rose 15.4% year on year to 822,300 units, as compared with the growth of 34%, 25% and 10.9% in April, May and June, respectively.

The Chinese government last month announced that it will offer up to RMB 3,000 subsidies for fuel-efficient vehicles purchase.

In the first seven months, the total auto sales in China climbed 29% to 8.24 million units while output jumped 39% to 9.71 million units.
