Chalco Starts 800,000 Tons Alumina Project In Zunyi

SHANGHAI, June 24 -- Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. (ACH), or Chalco, has started operation at an alumina project in the city of Zunyi in Guizhou province, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission said on its website Thursday.

The project, a part of Guizhou province's "11th Five-Year Plan", is expected to produce 800,000 tons of alumina a year and 1.7 million tons of bauxite a year, SASAC cited the company as saying. It started construction in February 2008.

Chalco is the listed unit of Aluminum Corp. of China, the country's largest aluminum producer.
