China to Invest 700b Yuan in High-Speed Railway

BEIJING, Jun. 7 -- China is to spend as much as 700 billion yuan ($102.52 billion) on high-speed rail construction this year, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing He Huawu, chief engineer of the Ministry of Railways.

He expects 4,613 kilometers of high-speed rail line will be put into service this year.

A total of 10,000 kilometers of line are already in construction up to date, according to He.
