SHANGHAI, May 31 (SMM) --

Copper Semis
China's apparent consumption of copper semis was 1.06 million mt in April, with strong gains, mainly from growing domestic output and imports of copper semis.  Based on a SMM survey, consumption for copper semis will remain strong during May, and is a sign of the positive effect from the seasonal peak demand period.  SMM believes China's copper semis apparent consumption will remain strong in May.

Refined Copper
China's apparent consumption of refined copper was 684.7 kt in April, down 8.7 kt from 693.4 kt in March, with YoY growth also down. China's output of copper semis were unchanged during April, while declines in apparent consumption of refined copper were due largely to falling imports of refined copper.  SMM predicts China's output and imports of refined copper will both remain steady during May, signaling an increase in China's refined copper apparent consumption in May.
