SHANGHAI, May 25 -- According to the latest data from Dalian Customs, alumina imports reported 1,181.4 mt via Dalian port from January to April, with import value recording USD 5.122 million, up 40.5% and 83.2% on a yearly basis, respectively.
Market players analyze that the growth in alumina import volumes and import value via Dalian port from January to April was mainly driven up by domestic demand. A spokesman from Alumina Ltd. said global alumina market demand in 2010 may increase by 10% compared with 2009 levels, with demand increases mainly from China and India. Domestic demand for alumina is growing along with the recovery in aluminum downstream industries, including construction, automobile, and transportation sectors.
