Three Copper Companies Collaborate to Build 800kt/yr Copper Smelter

SHANGHAI, Feb. 11 -- One person familiar with the matter, three copper product companies plan to work together to build an 800kt/yr of copper smelter in Lianyungang city, Jiangsu province.

The project will include one smelter and one plant of semi-finished copper product, said on the website of Lianyungang government.

According to statement on its website, total investment of the project will be RMB 12 billion, and the first phase of project will be 400kt/yr refined copper program, but with no specific data for construction. The project is waiting for the approval from the Central Government.

The person who declined to be named said only being approved can construction of the project will be put on the schedule.
If being approved by the Central Government, the project will be divided into two phases, with 1st phase of 400 kt/yr refined copper project to be completed in three years after approval.

The three companies are Jiangsu Tiandilong Group with annual copper rod capacity of 250kt/yr, Pan Asian Oasis, and the other company is likely one wire and cable producer in Southeast Asia.
