State Grid to Build 75 Electric-Vehicle Charging Stations

BEIJING, Feb. 4 -- State Grid Corp of China or SGCC, the country's largest electric power transmission and distribution group, on Jan. 27 released a report saying that China will build 75 electric-vehicle charging stations and 6,029 pilot electric-vehicle charging stations by the end of this year.

Chongqing, one of China's four municipalities, intends to build 50 pilot electric-vehicle charging stations in its major districts in 2010.

Shenzhen, the first Chinese city to offer charging facilities for electric automobiles, already has two charging stations and 134 pilot stations.

An insider said that an electric-vehicle is capable of running for 300 kilometers on a two-hour fast charge and of running for 100 km on a nine-hour charge.

In addition, SGCC plans to invest RMB 14.9 billion in the research and development of clean energy and renewable energy this year, and several R&D centers for wind and solar power will be set up.
