SHANGHAI, Jan. 25 (SMM) --

Concentrate
According to China Customs, China's imports of lead concentrate were 119.7 kt in December, down 19% MoM.  YTD imports were 1.61 million mt in 2009, up 11.3% YoY.  The decline in imports was due to a domestic/LME lead price ratio more favorable to exports.  However, the amount of lead concentrate available for trading during 2009 was not sufficient.  Origins of lead concentrate imports were mainly from Peru, the US and Australia.

Refined Lead
According to China Customs, China's imports of refined lead were 2.3 kt in December, up 33% MoM, with YTD imports of 157 kt, soaring 409%.  China exported 3,219 mt of lead in December.  The MoM increase of lead imports in December was mainly due to the use of long-term contracts, since the domestic/LME lead price ratio in November and December was more favorable for exports.
