China's GDP Grows 8.7% in 2009

BEIJING, Jan. 21 -- China's economic growth accelerated to 8.7 percent year-on-year in 2009, achieving the full-year growth target of 8 percent and totaling 33.53 trillion yuan, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Thursday.

The growth rate was 10.7 percent year-on year in the fourth quarter.

GDP of the world's third largest economy tumbled to 6.1 percent in the first quarter of 2009 as exports shrank to a decade low. It rose by 7.9 percent in the second quarter, and 8.9 percent in the third quarter.
