SHANGHAI, June 26 (SMM) --
Bauxite:
According to China Customs, bauxite imports were 1.55 million mt during May, down 4.4% YoY, but up 53% MoM. Since alumina producers in Shandong province restarted operations in early May, increasing demand for bauxite, the volume of imported bauxite rose significantly in May.
Alumina:
According to China Customs, China's alumina imports were 480.7kt during May, up 91.39% YoY, but down 25.61% MoM. The MoM decline reflects actual demand in domestic alumina markets. Meanwhile, rising LME aluminum ingot prices also had a negative impact on the inflow of overseas aluminum into domestic markets. Alumina imports are expected to remain at 400kt during June.
Aluminum:
According to China Customs, China's aluminum imports were 259.1kt during May, up 2414.26% YoY, but down 28.51% MoM. As domestic aluminum imports have experienced significant declines since May, CBI believes aluminum imports will fall further on a monthly basis during June.
