Primetals Technologies, JSW Steel Partner for Two Projects

Primetals Technologies has successfully started up JSW Vijayanagar Metallic Ltd.'s (JVML) Toranagallu plant in Karnataka, India, and secured an additional order for two large pelletizing plants at JSW Steel's Paradeep facility in Odisha. The JVML project included two 350-metric-ton LD converters, two ladle furnaces, dedusting systems, and two 2-strand continuous casters, along with full process automation — marking Primetals' first primary dry dedusting installation in India. At Paradeep, the new order covers two pelletizing plants with an estimated capacity of 8 million metric tons each annually, with Primetals providing plant design, engineering, key equipment, and construction advisory services.

[GPIL Resumes Operations at 2.0 MTPA Iron Ore Pellet Plant in Raipur]

Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd (GPIL) has resumed normal operations at its 2.0 MTPA iron ore pellet plant in Phase II, Siltara Industrial Area, Raipur, Chhattisgarh after a 46-day suspension. The plant was temporarily shut on July 14 amid elevated natural gas costs following GAIL supply constraints and price hikes as well as monsoon-related lower iron ore availability from the Ari Dongri Mines. With market conditions improving and cost pressures easing, GPIL has restarted production at the facility helping stabilize its overall production volumes for the second half of the financial year.

[NBS Interpretation of PMI Data for August 2026]

In August, the manufacturing PMI was 49.8%, up 0.6 percentage points from the previous month, with a rebound in business activity; the non-manufacturing business activity index was 49.0%, unchanged from the previous month; the composite PMI output index was 49.5%, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, indicating that the overall output climate of China's economy improved.

Pakistan Launches Anti-Dumping Sunset Review on Cold-Rolled Steel Coils and Sheets

Pakistan's National Tariff Commission has initiated an anti-dumping sunset review on cold-rolled steel coils and sheets imported from Taiwan, the EU, South Korea, and Vietnam. The August 19 announcement follows a June petition filed by local manufacturers Aisha Steel Mills Limited and International Steels Limited, with the investigation covering trade data from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2026. The products under review are prime and secondary, unclad and uncoated cold-rolled flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, 0.15mm to 3.00mm thick and up to 1250mm wide, in coils or sheets, excluding certain automotive outer skin grades and Tin Mill Black Plate.
