Slovalco Gradually Restarts Aluminum Smelter in Slovakia, Aiming for 75,000 mt Capacity by Feb 2027
According to foreign media reports on August 29, Slovalco has begun gradually restarting its aluminum smelter in Žiar nad Hronom, central Slovakia. The first batch of pots was started up last Saturday, and 100 of the smelter's 226 pots are expected to be in operation by the end of February 2027, providing total capacity of 75,000 mt, while the plant's full capacity is 175,000 mt. Whether the remaining 126 pots will be restarted will depend on future market conditions and the availability of competitively priced electricity.
