[SMM PV News Flash] Lincang Tea–PV Complementary Digital Innovation Project Wins National Technology Award

Recently, the Yanshuai Town Tea–PV Complementary Power Generation Project in Lincang City stood out in the 7th BIM Competition of the Engineering Construction Industry, winning the Special Prize in the Industrial and Energy Engineering category.

The project’s full title is “PV Tea Plantation ‘Two Mountains’ Transformation—Digital Application of BIM Technology Empowering the Yanshuai Town Tea–PV Complementary Power Generation Project.” It was jointly submitted by PowerChina Kunming Engineering Co., Ltd. and Huaneng Lancang River New Energy. Centered on BIM technology, the team integrated GIS, aerial survey and remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and parametric design, connecting the entire process from planning, design, and construction to acceptance, and driving “tea–PV complementarity” from concept to large-scale practice.

As a major energy project in Yunnan Province for 2025, the Yanshuai Town project covers 15,487 mu, with a total installed capacity of 585 MW. Since commissioning, it has generated annual direct economic benefits of more than 251 million yuan, delivered over 10 million yuan in additional income to farmers through land leasing, and increased tea output by about 124,000 jin. On the ecological front, it saves 296,100 mt of standard coal annually and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 797,100 mt.

In response to construction challenges such as significant mountainous terrain undulations and multi-process overlaps, the project established a full life cycle digital system, advancing mountainous PV from an extensive model to refined management, significantly reducing construction costs and improving site selection and acceptance efficiency. At present, this achievement has been promoted to more than 40 new energy projects in China and overseas, and will support the high-quality implementation of tea–PV complementary projects across Yunnan Province with a total capacity exceeding 20 million kW.

According to SMM and publicly available information, the Hamburg Local Court has recently opened preliminary insolvency proceedings for German solar developer and operator Enerparc AG and appointed a preliminary insolvency administrator. The proceedings currently apply only to the parent company, while its subsidiaries and project companies remain outside the scope. Founded in 2008, Enerparc is active across solar project development, EPC, O&M, power sales and energy storage. To date, it has developed around 6.6GW of solar projects, with approximately 5.5GW installed and 3.8GW grid-connected, while owning and operating more than 500 power plants. SMM believes the case partly reflects growing pressure on European solar developers from negative power prices, grid congestion and longer project cash-conversion cycles, and may affect module delivery and shipment schedules for some projects. According to Inner Mongolia Power Group, on September 9, the cumulative settled electricity volume of new energy in the Inner Mongolia Power Multilateral Trading Market reached 509.58 billion kWh, surpassing 500 billion kWh and leading all provincial-level markets nationwide. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Inner Mongolia Power Group built a robust power grid with a "four horizontal and six vertical" structure, featuring 500 kV as the backbone and 220 kV for distribution. Since the beginning of this year, a number of landmark and supporting major grid projects, including the Houhe Second Line, have been completed successively, adding 2.07 million kW of new energy accommodation capacity for areas such as Bayannur and Ordos. The construction of ultra-high-voltage and supporting projects for the desert-Gobi-wasteland large bases has been accelerated. The Inner Mongolia Power Group-managed section of the Dalad–Mengxi 1000 kV AC transmission and transformation project officially commenced, solidifying the energy foundation for large-scale, high-proportion new energy transmission. To date, the installed new energy capacity of the Inner Mongolia power grid has surpassed 100 million kW, accounting for 57.7% of the region's total installed capacity.
