August 27 news:
Rare Earth Ore:
This week, rare earth ore market transactions were mediocre overall. Affected by tightening supply and declining shipments of ion-adsorption ore in Southeast Asia, ore-side transaction prices edged up, with suppliers' quotes remaining stable and slightly higher. Among them, rare earth carbonate prices were reported at 59,300-59,500 yuan/mt, edging up during the week; monazite prices were reported at 41,000-45,000 yuan/mt, flat during the week; medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore prices were reported at 248,000-250,000 yuan/mt, rising significantly during the week, leading the gainers in the ore segment, with low-priced supplies hard to find.
Rare Earth Oxides:
This week, light rare earth oxide prices diverged, with the Pr-Nd series holding up well overall and lanthanum and cerium remaining stable. Among them, lanthanum oxide prices were reported at 5,200-5,800 yuan/mt, flat during the week; cerium oxide prices were reported at 14,000-14,500 yuan/mt, flat during the week; Pr-Nd oxide prices were reported at 732,000-735,000 yuan/mt, experiencing a slight pullback followed by a rebound, rising overall this week. Inquires were sluggish at the week's start, causing a slight pullback, then rebounded for two consecutive days driven by rising quotes. Tightening low-priced supplies supported firm prices, while downstream purchase willingness at high prices was mediocre. Some metal enterprises suspended quotes to observe due to oxide fluctuations, and losses persisted in the Pr-Nd alloy segment.
This week, the medium-heavy rare earth oxide market held up well overall, with low-priced supplies continuing to tighten and strong sentiment among suppliers to hold back from selling and hold prices firm. Quotes for various varieties were raised consecutively, but downstream purchases were cautious, with high-price transactions making slow progress, leading to slightly stagnant actual transactions. Short-term prices are likely to remain more likely to rise than fall. Among them, dysprosium oxide prices were reported at 1.45-1.47 million yuan/mt, rising during the week, driven higher by purchasing from large enterprises, with active inquiries and tight low-priced supplies; terbium oxide prices were reported at 6.75-6.8 million yuan/mt, rising during the week, with relatively stable fluctuations and a notable increase today, suppliers' quotes remained firm; gadolinium oxide prices were reported at 193,000-197,000 yuan/mt, rising in tandem driven by Pr-Nd oxide prices, with tightening low-priced supplies supporting higher quotes; holmium oxide prices were reported at 612,000-625,000 yuan/mt, driven by dysprosium oxide, with increased inquiry activity in the market, rising during the week, the top gainer; erbium oxide prices were reported at 625,000-635,000 yuan/mt, with more inquiries and transactions following through, prices rose; yttrium oxide (5N) prices were reported at 58,000-60,000 yuan/mt, flat during the week; yttrium oxide (3N) prices were reported at 28,000-30,000 yuan/mt, flat during the week, with downstream demand mediocre and prices stable.
Rare Earth Metals:
On the light rare earth side, cerium metal prices showed no significant fluctuations this week, with suppliers' quotes stable at 29,000-30,000 yuan/mt. Pr-Nd alloy prices first dipped then rebounded this week, marking an overall increase. Early in the week, affected by persistently sluggish downstream inquiry activity, metal enterprises loosened their quotations somewhat, and Pr-Nd alloy fell into losses again. Subsequently, driven by a significant increase in Pr-Nd oxide futures prices, spot cargo suppliers raised their quotations one after another, further tightening lower-priced supply in the market. Metal prices rose in tandem, supported by oxide costs. As of today, suppliers' quotations were adjusted to 882,000-890,000 yuan/mt. However, due to limited acceptance of high prices by downstream magnetic material enterprises, high-price transactions were difficult to follow up on, limiting actual price increases. Pr-Nd alloy remained in losses, and market trading showed a stalemate.
Medium-heavy rare earths, dysprosium-iron alloy was quoted at 1.42-1.43 million yuan/mt, with prices rising noticeably this week. This was mainly driven by the increase in dysprosium oxide prices and the scarcity of lower-priced oxide supplies, combined with a certain increase in inquiry and procurement activity, prompting suppliers to continuously raise their quotations. However, oxide prices fluctuated significantly, leading some metal enterprises to suspend quotations and observe market developments, resulting in limited follow-through on actual transactions. Terbium metal prices were raised to 8.33-8.37 million yuan/mt this week. Due to the difficulty in finding lower-priced oxide supplies, metal enterprises raised their quotations under cost support, but actual market transactions were scarce. Gadolinium-iron alloy prices were slightly raised this week. Driven by the rise in Pr-Nd prices and higher oxide prices, suppliers raised quotations to 185,000-190,000 yuan/mt, but market inquiry activity did not improve significantly, and trading remained mediocre. Holmium-iron alloy prices were raised to 615,000-625,000 yuan/mt this week, mainly affected by the tightening of low-priced holmium oxide supply, prompting suppliers to raise their quotations accordingly. However, downstream inquiry and procurement attitudes remained wait-and-see.
NdFeB Blanks:
Currently, NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) was quoted at 212~222 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40M was quoted at 258~268 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40H was quoted at 262~272 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 45SH (Ce) was quoted at 312~332 yuan/kg.
Price, NdFeB prices were slightly raised this week, with the core reason being that raw material price increases drove the NdFeB price adjustment. Trading, the NdFeB market trading volume was average this week. In the last week of August, most downstream motor factories and end-users gradually resumed operations. Export order inquiry frequency increased, but actual order placements were limited. China's end-use consumption remained sluggish, and procurement volumes for motors and magnetic steel contracted, resulting in mediocre overall market trading sentiment.
NdFeB Scrap:
This week, prices of Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap were quoted at 750-760 yuan/kg; dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap prices were quoted at 1,230-1,250 yuan/kg; terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap prices were quoted at 5,600-5,800 yuan/kg.
This week, the scrap market price exhibited a slight uptrend overall, mainly driven by the continuous rise in Pr-Nd oxide prices. At the beginning of the week, recycling enterprises raised their external procurement quotes accordingly, and the price of Pr-Nd scrap edged up slightly. Some suppliers' willingness to sell strengthened, but most suppliers remained cautious and held a wait-and-see attitude, with average market trading. Mid-week, Pr-Nd oxide prices fluctuated relatively little, and recycling enterprises made no significant adjustments to their quotes. Scrap prices operated stably, and market trading was sluggish. Subsequently, driven by just-in-time procurement by recycling enterprises, the price of Pr-Nd scrap was slightly raised. Some suppliers sold small quantities to cash out, and the circulation of compliant, tax-included scrap edged up slightly, with trading improving. Towards the weekend, oxide prices fluctuated relatively little, Pr-Nd scrap prices remained stable, most suppliers still held a wait-and-see attitude, and procurement by recycling enterprises remained difficult.
