[South Korea DRAM August Export Price Surges 401% YoY]
According to South Korea's *Chosun Ilbo*, the export price of South Korean DRAM continues to surge, as AI-driven HBM production is squeezing supply of general memory. Data show that from the 1st to the 20th of this month, the export unit price of South Korean DRAM reached $92,183 per kg, up 401% YoY and rising about 12.5 times from the low point in January 2023. Goldman Sachs expects the DRAM supply deficit to widen from 5.0% this year to 5.9% next year, and believes that "HBM required for AI servers and high-capacity server DRAM are absorbing limited production capacity, further tightening supply of general DRAM." TrendForce estimates that by the end of next year, the wafer input for HBM production at Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron will account for 30% of total DRAM wafer input, but HBM will only represent about 13% of actual DRAM bit supply. Memory producers warn that the tight supply of DRAM and NAND driven by AI demand may persist beyond 2027. SK Hynix stated that from the supply side, 2027 could become "the most severe shortage year in memory industry history." Goldman Sachs expects the supply deficit to continue until 2028.
