Today, spot #1 copper cathode in North China against the front-month contract was quoted at premiums ranging from 50 yuan/mt to 250 yuan/mt, with the average premium at 150 yuan/mt, unchanged from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 106,870 yuan/mt, down 935 yuan/mt from the prior session;

SMM August 19:

Today, in North China, spot #1 copper cathode against the front-month contract was quoted at an average premium range of 50 yuan/mt to 250 yuan/mt, with the average premium at 150 yuan/mt, unchanged from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 106,870 yuan/mt, down 935 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Futures continued their pullback, driving a concentrated release of downstream rigid demand, and purchase willingness rebounded. Suppliers' willingness to sell edged up slightly, market activity recovered somewhat, and the price spread for spot #1 copper cathode in North China remained stable. Today, the purchase sentiment for copper cathode in North China stood at 1.26, up 0.08 from the previous trading day, while the shipment sentiment was 2.71, down 0.02 from the previous trading day. ().

JCC Hongyuan Copper's $200M Expansion Project Aims to Boost Capacity to 550,000 mt by 2027
The 300,000 mt/year copper cathode expansion project of JCC Hongyuan Copper, a subsidiary of Jiangxi Copper Corporation, entered the pre-approval public notice stage of its environmental impact assessment on September 4, with a total investment of approximately 1.416 billion yuan. The project is planned to start construction in September 2026 and be completed in December 2027. Upon completion, JCC Hongyuan's total capacity will jump from 250,000 mt to 550,000 mt.
