[ New Zealand Steel Starts Commercial Production at Glenbrook EAF ]

New Zealand Steel officially commenced commercial operations at its newly installed electric arc furnace (EAF) at the Glenbrook steelworks. The technology upgrade allows the facility to melt domestic scrap steel, significantly altering its raw material procurement strategy. Company officials state the operational shift to the EAF will reduce the site's annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 45% compared to its previous coal-based production methods.
