[SMM Computing Power Midday Review] Computing Power Leasing Moving Sideways, Scarce Existing Nvidia Supply Awaits Ascend 950 to Resolve the Situation

Published: Aug 6, 2026 11:52
Today, computing power leasing was flat; H100 standalone scattered resources were released; and the highest quote for a 5090 complete machine in the west reached 16,000 yuan/month (no price increase this week). Existing Nvidia resources were scarce and quotes were firm; it is expected that the shortage of high-end computing power will be eased when the Huawei Ascend 950 cluster comes online for operator leasing resources in Q4.

[Market Overview] The computing power leasing market remained range-bound today, with no directional changes in pricing. Sporadic single-unit H100 rental resources were released, while the highest available quote for 5090 in the western region held at 16,000 yuan/month, confirming no price increase this week. The market maintained a weak balance between scarce existing resources and the anticipation of new supply.

[H100 and 5090: Scattered Release of Existing Resources, Quotes Consolidating at Highs] For H100, the market saw the release of stray single-unit rental resources, representing rotational supply from maturing existing resources. The volume was limited, with minimal impact on the overall supply-demand pattern. For 5090 in the western region, the highest available quote obtained last week was 16,000 yuan/month, configured with a CPU 6530, DDR5 64×16 memory, eight turbo 5090 cards, a 960GB system disk, and a 3.84TB data disk. This week has confirmed no price increase. The quote remained at a high, reflecting firm offers and reluctance to cut prices among holders amid scarce existing Nvidia computing power. [

SMM View] The consolidation at present is essentially a standoff between “scarcity and waiting”: resources are tight and existing Nvidia computing power is scarce, with quotes high and firm yet lacking incremental buying to push them further up. Two points warrant attention: First, the stray resource releases represent only rotational supply of existing capacity, unable to alleviate structural gaps, and the high-end supply shortage is unlikely to reverse soon. Second, the market is awaiting the Q4 launch of Huawei Kunlun 950 cluster rental resources by operators. If these come online as scheduled, they could materially ease the high-end supply tightness; however, domestic computing power still needs time to ramp up, and building confidence among developers and users is key for subsequent growth in adoption.

[SMM Computing Power Flash] Cloud Platform Computing Power Investment and Construction Shifts Toward Subleasing, RTX 5060 Boxed Card Price Reaches 2,950 Yuan
SMM learned from practitioners at well-known cloud platforms that in early 2026, investment mainly went into building data center-grade GPU servers for leasing. Affected by July's GPU price increases, they have turned to subleasing, and new investment has shifted to RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 for cloud gaming. Currently, RTX graphics card prices continue to rise moderately, with brand-new boxed RTX 5060 cards with a three-year warranty quoted at 2,900–2,950 yuan per card. SMM believes that GPU price increases have driven the supply side of computing power leasing toward subleasing, accelerating the penetration of consumer-grade cards into cloud gaming.

[SMM Computing Power Flash] Short-Term Rental Demand Faces Scarce Resources, Consider Shifting to Private Clouds with Classified Information Processing Qualifications
SMM learned from cloud platform industry practitioners that demand for domestic server leases of less than one year is difficult to match with market resources, and suppliers generally prefer long-term contracts. Relevant sources suggested that short-term rental buyers may choose private cloud deployments with qualifications for handling classified data. SMM believes that the short-term rental supply-demand mismatch highlights that suppliers mainly lock in capacity through long-term agreements, while flexible short-term rentals remain scarce supply.

[SMM Computing Power Midday Review] Computing Power Leasing Moves Sideways, Model API Price Hikes Disrupt Token Pricing
Computing power rental prices moved sideways today, with monthly rental and per-card-hour quotes for all models unchanged, mainly because no new resources were released into the market. Meanwhile, DeepSeek announced that it raised V4 series API pricing and introduced differentiated peak/off-peak pricing. Cached input pricing saw significant increases, well beyond the range of cost increases, signaling a pattern of testing the market with higher prices while leaving room for future anchoring. Frontline token businesses face a single pricing source and limited bargaining power, and need to closely monitor token price trends.
