[SMM Rare Earth Daily Review: Rare Earth Prices Stable, Trading Stalemate Limits Pr-Nd Gains] Overall, constrained by low downstream inquiry and purchasing enthusiasm, the rare earth market saw a sluggish trading atmosphere and generally stable prices. Although Pr-Nd product quotes were slightly raised driven by the rally in futures, the actual gains were limited, with supply-side price-holding and demand-side wait-and-see continuing to game. In the short term, affected by the trading stalemate, Pr-Nd product prices may continue to move sideways.

SMM, July 31: Rare earth market prices remained stable overall today. Specifically, in the oxide market, the price of Pr-Nd oxide was raised by 2,500 yuan/mt, while prices for dysprosium oxide, terbium oxide, gadolinium oxide, holmium oxide, and erbium oxide all remained flat.

In the metal market, the price of Pr-Nd alloy was raised by 2,500 yuan/mt, while prices for dysprosium-iron alloy, terbium metal, gadolinium-iron alloy, holmium-iron alloy, and lanthanum-cerium metal (alloy grade) all remained flat.

Currently, rare earth market prices are stable overall. Focusing on the Pr-Nd market, driven by a recovery in Pr-Nd oxide futures prices, spot suppliers slightly raised their price quotations. However, the trading atmosphere remained sluggish, and actual transactions were in the doldrums. In the metal market, prices followed the upward trend, buoyed by rising raw material costs, but downstream inquiries did not increase significantly. Magnetic material enterprises primarily made rigid restocking purchases at lower prices and showed limited acceptance of high-priced metals. As a result, the actual price increase for Pr-Nd alloy was constrained, leaving market trading in a stalemate.

In the medium-heavy rare earth market, downstream inquiries remained very limited. Quotations for dysprosium, terbium, gadolinium, and holmium products showed no significant adjustments, remaining stable overall, though actual transaction conditions were poor. On the whole, constrained by low downstream purchasing enthusiasm, the trading atmosphere in the rare earth market was sluggish, with prices generally holding steady. Although Pr-Nd product price quotations were slightly raised, driven by futures price increases, the actual extent of the rise was limited. The standoff continued between supply-side efforts to hold prices firm and demand-side wait-and-see sentiment. In the near term, impacted by this trading stalemate, Pr-Nd product prices are likely to continue moving sideways within a narrow range.

[Pr-Nd series continued to recover but transaction cooled down near the weekend, medium-heavy rare earth held up well, and magnetic materials saw limited growth following the price rise.] Currently, the overall circulation frequency of rare earth ore remains poor, market trading is stagnant, and weak oxide prices have caused a downward shift in the center of actual transaction prices of rare earth ore.

[SMM Analysis] India Rare Earths: Application End Potential Is Real, But Industry Chain Self-Reliance Is Still Early
On August 13, 2026, the Ministry of Heavy Industries of India officially launched the technical bid evaluation for the "Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Manufacturing Promotion Plan" (REPM), with 20 bids vying for up to five licenses. On the surface, it appears to be a fierce "20-for-5" competition, but when examining the industry's fundamentals, the real protagonist of this story is not the 72.8 billion rupees (about $765 million) in subsidies, but the "three clocks" running simultaneously in India—the policy clock is already pointing to mass production in 2028, the commercialization clock of state-owned enterprise IREL points to 2029–2030, and the certification clock of downstream clients is measured in "years." The desynchronization of these three clocks is the most intuitive footnote to the fact that it is still too early for India's rare earth industry chain to develop.
