[China Iron Ore Brief] The price of iron ore concentrates in west Liaoning may consolidate on a subdued note.

Published: Jul 23, 2026 17:50

Transactions in the domestic ore market in western Liaoning are weak. The pre-tax EXW price of wet basis 66% grade acid concentrate in the Chaoyang area is 715-720 yuan/mt, but at this price, beneficiation plants find it difficult to sell. Buyers and sellers are mostly in a stalemate, taking a wait-and-see approach. Some mines have resumed production, but due to strict inspections, operations will remain at low levels, and short-term supply relief is limited, providing strong support for prices. Steel mills currently have a relatively strong desire to bargain down prices and mostly purchase as needed. Combined with the recent weak trend of iron ore futures, it is expected that local iron ore concentrate prices may consolidate on a subdued note in the short term. [SMM Steel]

On July 23 China's steel exports edged higher. Plate/HRC export prices rose USD 1-2/tonne day on day, with HRC deals at 487-492 USD/tonne; yet with domestic futures up, traders reported deals lagging recent days and mills' order-taking also below expectations. Export billet FOB nudged up USD 1-2 to 458-460 USD/tonne at Jiangyin — hit by a Middle-East shipping-security incident and a marked drop in traffic through the relevant strait that lifted freight and insurance costs, billet seaborne trade came under pressure and actual deals still required price concessions. Rebar export edged up day on day though the afternoon futures fell and offers loosened slightly; inquiries were flat amid continued wait-and-see, with a few East-China mills quoting British-standard rebar at 482-483 USD/tonne (ex-Jiangyin).
