Recently, the Baotou Jiuyuan District Hydrogen Production and Storage Integrated Demonstration Project, developed by PowerChina Beijing Engineering Corporation Limited, has officially completed filing, marking the project's entry into the implementation preparation phase. Located in the Jiuyuan Industrial Park in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, the project has a total investment of approximately 1.47 billion yuan and will focus on hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, and supporting R&D and detection system development, creating a hydrogen energy demonstration platform that integrates production, storage and transportation, and scientific research.
According to information, the project is planned to commence construction in October 2026 and complete construction by December 2028. The total investment is 1.4695 billion yuan, of which the enterprise's own funds account for 293.906 million yuan and bank loans account for 1.175624 billion yuan.
The construction content covers multiple hydrogen energy infrastructure and functional platforms, including a hydrogen production unit with an annual capacity of 7,366 mt,168,900 standard cubic meters of hydrogen storage facilities, as well as the supporting construction of a hydrogen production testing platform, a hydrogen storage and compression area, a hydrogen quality testing center, a hydrogen energy technology R&D center, and a hydrogen energy science education base, further enhancing the supporting capacity of the entire hydrogen energy industry chain.
This filing signifies that the project has completed the preliminary approval procedures, laying the foundation for subsequent legal procedures such as construction permit, safety assessment, and environmental assessment. Once completed, the project will further improve the level of hydrogen energy infrastructure construction in Baotou, strengthen regional capabilities in hydrogen production, storage, and technology R&D, and provide support for the demonstration application and industrial cluster development of the local hydrogen energy industry.
